Individual & Small Group Guidance
Individual Guidance Students may meet with the school counselor individually to discuss a problem, concern or issue in a confidential setting. Referrals can be made by students, parents, teachers, or administrators. Students may ask the counselor to speak with them or they may set up a meeting through their classroom teacher. Feel free to contact your school counselor if you have any individual concerns about your child.
*Please keep in mind this is a school environment and NOT meant to be therapy. If your child needs more attention or expertise, the school counselor would be happy to refer you to an outside counselor or therapist in the area.
Small Group Guidance In addition to guidance classes, the school counselor leads several small groups throughout the year. Small groups are available to students who are looking for positive interactions and/or students having difficulty in various areas (i.e. friendship, behavior, or feelings). These groups are limited to 4-6 students. Students meet for approximately 30 minutes a week for a few weeks to an extended period of time. The teachers and the counselor coordinate times to avoid structured learning times. Group topics may include:
Anger Control
Divorce
Grief/Loss
Organization/Study Skills
Relational Aggression
Social Skills
Stress/Anxiety
These groups are very positive and are usually fun for children to attend. Students with a wide range of skill levels are usually included in an effective group. In effective groups, students learn from each other as well as the counselor.

"In the final analysis it is not what you do for your children but what you have taught them to do for themselves that will make them successful human beings." -Ann Landers
